SP 89' Flat Cars

The SP switched from purchasing 85' flat cars for TOFC/Auto Pack service in the mid 1960 when they purchased a class of 89' flats for saddle back truck loading. This size became the standard long flat which the SP would purchase for the rest of its existence. Some of the very first long cars were built to 79'-6" and were later stretched to 85' and then to 89'.
