Note 1 : The Shippers Car Line 6-axle cars originally had SHPX reporting marks, but these were subsequently changed to ACFX.  The 8-axle cas were built with ACFX reporting marks.

Note 2 : At least 14 DuPont cars were been sold for continued use, but retained their original numbers. Six 6-axle cars (29627, 29633 29644, 29646, 29649, 29651) went to DAK Americas (DAKX) in the Fall of 2001, and at least three 6-axle (29647, 29648, 29662) and five 8-axle (29726, 29727, 29732, 29747, 29765) cars went to Invista (INVX) in 2005.  Both DAK Americas and Invista operate former DuPont plants.

Note 3 : The Essem Corp. (ESMX) and United States Leasing International (RAIX) were both affiliated with Union Carbide Corp.  In 1984, the 32 active ESMX cars received the Union Carbide CCBX reporting mark.  Around 1988, 25 of the 32 active cars received the Vista Chemical Corp. VICX reporting mark.  Vista Chemical had been formed in July 184 from the chemical dividion of Cononco, Inc.  Vista Chemical became CONDEA Vista in 1991 and the VICX cars and reporting mark were acquired by Union Tank Car Co. in 1998.  The RAIX reporting mark was reassigned from United States Leasing International to Union Carbide in 1981.

Note 4 : Most of the Monsanto cars wore MCPX reporting marks through their existence.  Three cars (23034-23039) had the MONX reporting mark from late 1967 to early 1973, but these was changed back to MCPX.

Note 5 : GATX donated this car to the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis in 1971.

Note 6 : Conrail donated this car to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania at Strasburg in 1998.

Note 7 : Union Tank Car Co. donated this car to the Galveston Island Railroad Museum in 1983; but it was damaged during Hurricane Ike in 2008 and subsequently scrapped.
