DUPX 29629 • Michael Palmieri • KCS • New Orleans area • 17 April 1976
Less than eight years old, and DUPX 29629 has already lost its distinctive DuPont logo.  During the 1970's many tank car owners removed prominent identification from their cars, because of the negative publicity generated when photos of all-too-frequent train accidents appeared in the media.

DUPX 29627 and 29633, along with four cars from the 29643-29666 series, were sold to DAK Americas in Fall 2001 when that company acquired DuPont plants in Fayetteville and Wilmington, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina.  They retained their original numbers but received the DAKX reporting mark.

In their final years most of the remaining 29600-series cars typically operated in southeast Texas between Laporte and Deer Park.  DuPont combined the entries for cars 29600-29642 and 29643-29666 in the JAN 1980 ORER, making it impossible to tell which cars were being retired from each of the two groups; however trace reports show that all of the 29600-29642 were retired by the end of 2004.  The ORER listing for the 29600-29666 series decreased from 43 cars in JAN 2004 to 10 in JAN 2005 and to three in JUL 2005, and these were not from the 29600-29642 group.

As of mid-2013 DAKX 29627 and 29633 were at the DAK plant in Leland, NC; although they had not left there in several years.
