Everything I know about these cars comes from the ORER and a photo of NATX 37300 on page 119 of Tank Car Color Guide-Volume 2. The 37300 was first listed in APR 1966, while the 37301 wasn't added until OCT 1967. This is also when NATX 38000-38054 first showed up, although I don't know if there is any significance to that. Although the 37300 and 37301 were listed together, the fact that they showed up 18 months apart might mean that their appearance differed, even if their specifications were the same.
The photo of the 37300 shows a black 38,841-gallon car with side-mounted ladders and ASF trucks. It has a small North American emblem and very small lettering which reads "TANK BUILT BY A.M.F. 7-66." Some NACC cars assembled in Texarkana had tanks that were built by Beaird Industries, an AMF subsidiary in Shreveport. While I don't know when the car was actually completed, July 1966 was during the first year of large-scale RailWhale production; so this car – and the 37301 – were probably
demonstrators to show 6-axle cars to prospective customers. They were listed for at least 20 years, so NATX must have put them to good use.
