The SP purchased a number of freight cars through their Banker's Leasing Corporation subsidiary and leased them back to the MKT railroad for a period of 15 years in the mid 1960's. These cars carried BKTY or MKT reporting marks and were painted in the Katy's red scheme with the Katy herald, but carried SP class designations. Two groups of covered hoppers also carried BLCX reporting marks and some were re-stenciled SP in the 1980's.
