Re-numbered SP 230xxx cars
The Union Pacific, following its aquisition (assimillation) of the SP, re-numbered a group of 50', 70 ton box cars into the SP 230xxx series. This is the second group of cars to occupy this group of numbers, as a group of 50 ton box cars were numbered as such from the late 1960's into the early 1980's. These cars came from the B-70-63, -64, 67, 71, 74, 75, 77 and B-70-78 classes as can be verified from Eric Neubauer's Golden West Service e-book which provides a car by car accounting of original number to GWS number back to 230xxx number. Great reference!
