These 50'-7" box cars were built by FMC-GBEC in 1972 as above. They featured 2x8' doors as above, Hydra Cushion underframes, non-terminating ends, AEI label, AAR single-panel COTS and 5258 ft3 capacity. Some of these cars had the left hand door painted yellow to signify paper service.

Many cars of this class were repainted and renumbered as Golden West Service cars. At the time of rebuilding the original double doors were changed to either a single 10' sliding door or 12' plug door or not altered. It is interesting to note that due to the number of cars involved in this class that some B-70-64 cars were given Golden West Service 765xxx numbers. None of the B-70-65 cars (former Evergreen (EFCX)) were part of the Golden West Service program, so there was no conflict. Some of the cars with new single doors were subsequently re-numbered into a new SP series (230000's) by UP in lieu of into their original numbers.
