SSW GP40 page: GRIP Program
GRIP Program:
The entire group of eight SSW GP40's were rebuilt in 1981-1982 and renumbered in the SSW 7960-7967 series. They were setup to be used with the SP's fleet of former U25B's that were converted into what it termed Tractive Effort Booster Units (TEBU's) for road slug service.
