This loco was built in 1-3/1966 with EMD serial number 31483. She was built as a freight roadswitcher. She was painted in standard for the time bloody nose colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on the front and a horizontal dual sealed beam headlight on the rear.

She was rebuilt as part of the GRIP program in early 1982 and given new number SSW 7963. She was setup to work with SP's TEBU (Tractive Effort Booster Unit) slugs.
