GP38-2 Lease Unit Origins:
Starting in late 1993, the SP began to place on lease a group of GP38-2 units (and 1 GP38AC) owned by Helm Leasing. These units were all originally L&N units. They were initially placed in the SP 151 series, but not all numbers were used. These units were shortly afterward (about a year later) renumbered above the SP's existing GP38-2 units as SP 4845-4873, however, again, not all numbers were used. Units leased starting in 1995 were numbered directly into this series.
