40' 50 ton Copper Box Cars

An interesting group of cars rostered by the SP is its fleet of 40' 50 ton box cars used for copper bar loading. These cars were rebuilt from existing SP 40' 50 ton box cars with larger 10' doors, renumbered into the SP 606xxx series as below and featured a large "C" on the door to denote them as being assigned to copper loading.
