These 40'-6", 50-ton box cars were rebuilt and renumbered from existing SP box car classes into this series by SP Shops in 4-10/1969 for specially equipped service hauling copper bars denoted by the large C inside the yellow circle on the door.

It has been suggested that most if not all of these cars were rebuilt from SP/T&NO cars from class B-50-32. However, this has yet to be verified.
