S-40-8 Stock Cars

A roster of the S-40-8 class stock cars is provided as follows:

	SP 73945-74419
AE 3500-3524 (Arizona Eastern RR) (Re #'d SP 77751-77779)
	SD&A 9000-9003 (San Diego & Arizona RY) " " " "

These 36'-6" single deck stock cars were built by the Pullman Company (lot 5350) in 1923-24 and featured 2596 ft3 capacity. It appears that some may have been rebuilt as double deck cars as the April 1963 ORER list 14 cars as double deck at 2535 ft3 capacity as well as 112 single deck cars at 2596 ft3. In the late 1950's 500 cars from this class as well as S-40-9 were transferred to T&NO 15500-15749 and 16000-16249.

For a review of the Westerfield resin kit for these cars, see the Spring 1999 (No. 59) issue of the SPH&TS magazine Trainline. You can also see the variety of kits for these cars offered by Westerfield at their website.
