G-50-8 Gondolas

A roster of the G-50-8 class gondolas is provided as follows:

	GH&SA 41750-42049	(re #'d to SP 300774-300819)
           LW 42050-42149	" " " "
        HE&WT 42150-42249 " " " "

These 40'-4" tight-bottom gondolas were all built to the same basic design by Ralston in 1924. It appears that over the years, many of these cars were rebuilt for specific assignments such as scrap steel service and bagasse service. The orginal group of cars were has all steel sides and ends, but at some point prior to 1950, at least 245 cars had their steel floors and sides replaced with wooded floors and sides.

The cars were all re-lettered T&NO in the 30's and subsequently folded into the SP's 6-digit numbering scheme in the mid 50's and early 60's.

Over 100 of these cars were assigned to bagasse service, with 42 eventually being re-numbered to SP 357000-357041 as G-50-8A's for bagasse service. Others were eventually renumbered SP 300774-300819.
