F-70-17 Flat Cars
A roster of the F-70-17 class flat cars is provided as follows:
SP 513000-513024 (some re #'d to SP 519000-519025) SP 513025-513049 SP 513050 PFF 830000-830049 (PFE class F-70-1) (re #'d to SP 513650-513699)
These 85'-0" flat cars were built by AC&F in August 1960 and featured Symington trucks and National handbrakes. At some point (probably in the early 1960's) SP 513026-513050 were leased to PFE as PFF 513026-513050 and eventually were returned to their original SP numbers. Also, a few cars were renumbered to SP 519000-519025 and assigned to cedar/pencil stock loading.
It has also been discovered that a group of original Pacific Fruit Express flats (PFF 830000-830049; originally PFE classed as F-70-1) was probably leased to or purchased by the SP around April 1971 and renumbered as SP 513650-513699. Apparently, the SP was not thorough with re-stenciling the new SP class, as both variations have been noted in field reports over the years. Some of these cars apparently went to OTDX at some point.
