B-100-27 Box Cars:
SP 674900-675099 (to CRLE 10300-10399, Champion International Corp.)
These 50'-2" insulated box cars were built by PC&F in 1971. They featured 5027 ft3 capacity, Hydra Cushion underframes and a 10'-0" door opening. They were initially assigned to tin plate loading.
A group of 100 of these cars were sold to Coe Rail (CRLE) around 1990 and placed into newsprint service for Champion Paper Co. They were stenciled "return empty to Sheldon TX" and carried newsprint. Some or all were eventually transferred to Mahoning Valley Ry. with MVRY reporting marks and the same numbers. Some were later acquired by the Andersons and given BAEX reporting marks. For some reason, they retained their SP class designations when repainted. Any help on understanding the history of these cars would be appreciated.
