B-70-42 Box Cars
A roster of the B-70-42 class box cars is provided as follows:
SSW 61150-61649 Golden West numbers: VCY 142500-142588 (upgraded to 100 tons capy; B-100-42)
These 50'-7" box cars were built by FMC-GBEC (lot 16225) in 9/1968-1/1969. They featured 2x8' Youngstown plug doors, Hydra Cushion underframes and 6089 ft3 capacity. Many of these cars were later rebuilt by SP into B-70-42R's.
When these cars went through the Golden West Service rebuild program, they were upgraded to 100-ton capacity, thus were assigned to class B-100-42. Note that this is GWS class only as there was already an SP class B-100-42 which were completely different cars.
