B-70-21 Box Cars
A roster of the B-70-21 class box cars is provided as follows:
SP 615500-615549 SSW 65031-65040
These 86'-6" box cars were all built to the same basic design by Thrall in 1964 and featured Keystone cushion underframes, bulkheads, single 20' Youngstown plug doors per side and 10,000 ft3 capacity. Since all of the photos I have of this class are all painted in the box car red scheme, I surmise that they may have been delivered in this scheme and not the bright red scheme. Anyone with any further evidence or knowledge of this, please let me know. Also, at least one of this class, SP 615514, was re-built in March 1990 as evidenced by the B-70-21-R shown on Eric Dillinger's photo. This is unusual for SP, as it seems to have kept its original number after being re-built.
