These 50'-6" box cars were built by SP Equipment Co. (Sacremento) in 1955-1956 as above. They featured 4980/4567 ft3 capacity and a 15'-4" door opening.

It is assumed that the 250 loader-equipped cars of this class were constructed with their assigned-service numbers in the 683xxx series and later renumbered into their general-service 212xxx series numbers, but this is only speculation at this time. More research is needed!

Also, some cars appear to have been renumbered to the SP 171*** series.
