These 40'-5" wood sheathed, steel underframe box cars were built by Standard Steel Car Co. in 1924 for the T&NO, EP&SW and PE and became SP property after the acquisition of those roads by the SP. They featured 3435 ft3 capacity when built.
Many of these cars were subsequently rebuilt with upgraded underframes, steel ends and steel sides. These cars were designated as B-50-14A.
