Auto Box Cars

For those interrested in SP's fleet of auto, furniture and buggy cars, see the following class pages. These cars were originally differentiated from standard box cars by their large double door opening to allow easier loading of large bulky objects. The SP (unlike the UP) dropped this designation in the mid 1950's, classing both double door and single door box cars as "B" cars. There were never any 70 or 100 ton "A" class cars on the SP.
