The SP began a large scale program to rebuilt its many locomotives called the GRIP (General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program) in 1970. It encompassed many models of locomotives, one of the last of which was the SD45T-2. A total of xxx SD45T-2's went through the program being rebuilt at Sacramento, CA:
