These 40'-6", 50-ton box cars were built by Mt. Vernon Car Co. in 2-3/1947. They featured double sliding doors, wood running boards and 3982 ft3 capacity.
Evans auto loaders were applied by the Cotton Belt in 1947, only to be removed over a period of a few years in 1961-63. Some cars seem to have had various loading restraints applied such as 17 belt DF-2 (22 cars) and 5 belt DF-2 (5 cars.)
These cars were very similar (although not identical) to the SP's class A-50-16 cars.
A Tony Thompson review of the Sunshine HO scale model of these cars appeared in the Spring 1997 (#51) edition of the SP Historical and Technical Society magazine Trainline.
