A roster of the R-70-22 class reefers is provided as follows:
PFE 459301-459400 (later transferred to SPFE w/ same numbers) Golden West numbers: VCY 25000=25399 (mixed with R-70-20 & -24 class cars)
These 50' mechanical refrigerator cars were all built to the same basic design by PC&F in 1970 and featured 4050 ft3 capacity and a 10'-6" door opening. Note that this body style is sometimes referred to as 57', however, the mechanical refrigeration eqipment takes up space on one end of the car leaving a nominal 50' usable inside length for loading. Harry Wong has a good writeup regarding the release of an Intermountain model of this class.
When rebuilt, repainted and remarked as Golden West Service cars, they were mixed with PFE/SPFE class R-70-20 and -24 cars as VCY 25000-25399.
