These 40' steel refrigerator cars were all built as above and featured XXXX ft3 capacity, Murphy steel rooves, L-corner 4/4 Dreadnaught ends and 4'-0" doors. Fifty cars were converted for express service in 1950-51 and re-numbered PFE 901-950 and reclassed BR-40-10. Another group of 216 cars were renumbered as PFE 30039-34690 in 1965.

Modeling note: InterMountain and Sunshine both make models of the R-40-10 class.
