H-70-3A Hopper Cars

A roster of the H-70-3A class hopper cars is provided as follows:

	SP 14100-14111	(re #'d SP 400013-400024)

This is Tim O'Connor's SP Quiz #1 car.

These cars were all converted from H-70-3 Hart Selective hoppers which were originally built in 1942 by AC&F. All were rebuilt to covered hoppers of 2375 ft3 capacity by SP in two batches in October 1948 and March 1949. They were initially assigned to trona (potash) from mines at Trona, CA.

See pg 123 in Tony Thompson's book Southern Pacific Freight Cars: VOL V for more information and two photos.
