F-70-20 Flat Cars:
SP 598301-598310 1961 Thrall (Job P-3139) SP 598311-598350 1962 Greenville Steel Car Co. SSW 85600-85649 1964 GBEC (Lot 12064) (to DODX 598313=598350)
These 60'-0", 75-ton flat cars were built as above and featured 18 stake pockets, fishbelly side sills, overhanging wood decks, Equipco (Uarco) hand brakes and Hydra-Cushion underframes. Many of these cars were assigned to SP's SkyBox serivce hauling aircraft sub-assemblies. At some point, many or all of these cars were re-assigned to other services and lost their distinctive lids.
It is quite rare during this time period for more than one builder to have built cars within a given class. It is not unheard of, however!
It is not known how many at this time, but some cars of this class became DODX cars retaining their SP numbers.
