B-70-16 Box Cars
A roster of the B-70-16 class box cars is provided as follows:
SP 663000-663099 (re #'d SP 234065-234117) SSW 60000-60099 (re #'d SSW 20350-20449)
These 50'-6" box cars were all built to the same basic design by AC&F in 1962 and featured a combination of 8'-0" Youngstown sliding and plug doors, Hydra-Cushion underframes, Car Pac loaders and 4644 ft3 capacity. Four cars (SP 663053, 663057, 663058 & 663083) were equipped with end doors.
The Cotton Belt cars may have not actually been members of this class as their freight car purchases and books were on the verge of being folded into those of parent SP. In any event, they were built at the same time and appear to have been built to the same specifications.
