This loco was built in 03/1953 with EMD construction number 17338. As built, she featured dynamic brakes, mu capability, an 800 HP EMD prime mover, single exhaust stack and hood mounted number boards.

She was assigned number SP 1116 in the 1965 system renumbering.

At some point prior to spring 1976, she was obviously fitted with extra gyralights fore and aft.
