SP 5479

This loco was built in 3/1956 with EMD construction number 21304. It was built with boiler controls, but without a steam generator or water tank for reserve passenger service. This meant that it needed a trailing unit such as an F7B to operate in multiple with to provide steam heat to a passenger train. It also featured dual fuel tanks for dual fuel operation. It was painted in standard for the time "black widow" colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.

She was assigned number SP 3953 in the 1965 system renumbering.

She was one of the few SD9's not rebuilt as part of the GRIP program.
