This loco was built in 4/1955 with EMD construction number 20202. It was built as a freight engine. It was painted in standard for the time "black widow" colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3902 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as the very last SD9 to be upgrade as SP 4441 on 3/27/1980.
