This loco was built in 2/1955 with EMD construction number 20237. She was built as a reserve passenger engine with steam generator. She was painted in standard for the time "black widow" colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.

She was assigned number SP 3864 in the 1965 system renumbering.

She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 4384 on 3/4/1974.
