This loco was built in 1/1955 with EMD construction number 20224. It was built as a reserve passenger engine with steam generator. It was painted in standard for the time "black widow" colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3851 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 4340 on 3/19/1971.
