SP 5311

This loco was built in 7/1953 with EMD construction number 18403. It was built as a freight engine. It was painted in standard for the "tiger stripe" colors. It is not sure what headlight configuration this unit was delivered with, but it is presumed that it was either delivered with barrel style, oscilating headlights at each end or had them added by the SP shortly after delivery along with sealed beam headlights below.

She was assigned number SP 2718 in the 1965 system renumbering.

All of the SD7's were renumbered as a group in 1973 to make room for new MP15 switch engines. This unit was renumbered SP 1418.

She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 1542 (as the last SD7 to be rebuilt) on 6/6/1980.
