SP 9220

This loco was built in x/1972 with EMD construction number 72601-12. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time bloody nose colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on the front end. The rear featured xxxx.
She was involved in a serious wreck with Amtrak at Tuscon, AZ on 01/05/73. She was rebuilt by SP's Sacramento Shops and returned to work on 06/25/1974 as SP 9314. She retained her original EMD construction number.
She was not rebuilt as part of the SP's GRIP program.
She was one of quite a few of SP's SD45T-2 units known to have been repainted into SP's "Speed Lettering" scheme at a point after the SP was bought by Rio Grande Industries in October 1988.
