GRIP Program:
The SP began a large scale program to rebuilt its many locomotives called the GRIP (General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program) in 1970. It encompassed many models of locomotives, one of the last of which was the SD45. A total of 167 SD45's went through the program being rebuilt at Sacramento, CA:
