This loco was built in xx/19xx with EMD construction number 7148-20 as SD45 C&NW 956. She was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen to DASH-2 specifications and numbered SP 8578.
During the rebuild process, her original long hood with flares was replaced by a donor hood from a GP40.
