SP 8431

This loco was built in 2/1966 with EMD construction number 7861-22.

She was rebuilt and renumbered to SP 7331 as part of the SP's GRIP program on 10/22/1980. The most visible external change was the addition of a full set of Gyralight to the rear of the unit.

She was one of three SP SD40's to retain her last two digits after GRIP, along with the SP 8436 & 8441. This was purely by conincidence as the new numbers were assigned in shop order as the units were rebuilt at random.
