SP 4844

This loco was built in 3/1965 with EMD construction number 29858. It was built as a freight engine. It was painted in standard for the time bloody nose colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on the front end. The rear featured a dual sealed beam light only.
She was assigned number SP 6928 in the 1965 system renumbering.
At some point in the 1960's, she was fitted with an experimental air intake shield just behind the cab at the roofline similar to what was applied to some of SP's SD45's. It is not known how long this aparatus was kept on the unit, but it was there in a series of 1968 photos of the unit on Tehachapi. See this link for pics. Scroll to the bottom and there are three pics of this arrangement by Richard Smith.
She was renumbered to SP 3109 on 4/8/1980 and assigned to work the West Colton, CA hump yard.
