SP 5720
This loco was built in 2/1956 with ALCO construction number 81456. It was built as ALCO demonstrator unit DL701 and was equipped with boiler controls (but not a boiler) and ATS (Automatic Train Stop.) She was purchased by the SP on 05/29/1956. The SP eventually repainted her into the standard for the time black widow colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end. She was setup to operate long hood forward and retained this setup throughout her SP career.
She was physically renumbered SP 5720 on 06/20/1956.
She was assigned number SP 2900 in the 1965 system renumbering.
