1965 Renumbering:

In late 1965, the SP began a program to renumber the majority of its locomotive fleet into a consolodated system without regard for reporting mark. The RS11 units were demoted to switcher status and their 1965 numbers reflected this change as switchers were placed in the 2xxx number range, while their cousins, the GP9's, were placed in the 34xx series, indicating their status as true road switchers.
