SP MK5000C page

This page is dedicated to SP's small fleet of 3 Morrison Knudsen MK5000C locomotives. MK painted the evaluation units in SP's grey and red "bloody nose" scheme with SP's speed lettering on the long hood. They ran for a year on the SP and were sent back to MK so were never actually owned by the SP. After leaving the SP, they were evaluated by and later acquired by the UTAH railway where they were eventually rebuilt with more proven EMD components such as prime movers and main alternators. They were thus rebranded as MK50-3 models. In March and April 2017, they were sent to operated on the Kyle Railroad.
