T&NO 438

This loco was built in 5/1956 with EMD builder's number 21422. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured a single dual sealed beam headlight on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3560 in the 1965 system renumbering.
At some point she was fitted with front and rear light arrangement possibly from a donor Pacific Lines unit possibly from wreck damage. The arrangement featured only a single sealed beam headlight on each end, but also featured a bracket evocative of later units which had their gyralights removed in favor of a Santa Fe style rotating beacon. If anyone has further information on this situation, I would love to hear from you so that this page can be updated.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 3440 in 12/1977. She featured a full gyralight set after GRIP.
