T&NO 422

This loco was built in 5/1955 with EMD builder's number 19970. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured a single dual sealed beam headlight on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3434 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 3300 in 2/1970. She was the VERY first GP9 rebuilt by the SP under the GRIP Program and emerged with a single combination Gyralight/UDE housing on the front in an apparent experiment on how to treat the ex T&NO units. It appears as thought no attempt was made to add rear Gyralights. This combination housing was mounted directly on the nose of the unit, so the typical bracket was not used. The sealed beam headlight was lowered at the time of rebuilding. This unit and the SP 3301 (ex T&NO 408) would be treated the same. Photos of this locomotive in 1975 show the front housing removed. It is not clear why they would have been removed so soon after they were applied.
She was renumbered into a switcher series as SP 2886 in 1978.
