T&NO 283

This loco was built in 5/1954 with EMD builder's number 19485. She was built as a passenger engine with a boiler in the nose. She was setup with dual control stands for operation in either direction, thus she had wings on the front and rear. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured Pyle oscilating dish signal lights on both ends.
In November 1960, she (along with #282) left the T&NO for California.
She was renumbered as 5893 when she entered passenger service on the west coast.
She was assigned number SP 3422 in the 1965 system renumbering. While her sister, the former T&NO 282 (then SP 3421) had lost her steam generator in March 1962, SP 3422 had not. She had been working local freights and when this was discovered, she was placed in the commute pool and renumbered SP 3010.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 3191 in 10/1977.
