T&NO 242

This loco was built in 5/1954 with EMD builder's number 19474. She was built as a dual service freight or passenger engine with a steam generator in her nose. She was setup with a single control stand, thus she had wings on the front high nose only. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured Pyle oscilating dish signal lights on both ends.
During the early 1960's, she lost her steam generator. At some point, she lost her large Pyle headlights.
She was assigned number SP 3413 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 3409 (2nd) in bloody nose paint in 12/1974. She appears to have been one of the few former T&NO GP9's to receive a full SP style headlight package upon rebuild.
