SP 5740:
This loco was built in (1 or 2?)/1957 with EMD serial number 22922. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3581 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 3779 in 9/1975.
As of April 2015, this engine was stored unservicable and full of graffiti in Eureka, CA at the former Northwestern Pacific Railroad yard along with three other ex SP GP9's. It is rumored that all four engines will be relocated and restored in some way. It is hoped that they would be made operable once again.
As of September 2025, it appears that this unit has been scrapped on site.
