This loco was built in 3/1956 with EMD serial number 21349. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3489 in the 1965 system renumbering.
This engine did not go through the GRIP program.
She was sold to ICG and rebuilt as a GP8 at Paducah Shops and became ICG 7970.
