This loco was built in 2/1956 with EMD construction number 21338. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time black widow colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.
She was assigned number SP 3478 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 3401 in 8/1974.
She was wrecked in late 1990 and sat at Roseville with a bent frame for some time. It is assumed that she was scrapped as a result.
