SP GP60 page:
This page is dedicated to SP's fleet of GP60 locomotives. The SP was the original owner of 195 GP60 units in several groups from 1988 to 1994 to both the SP and the SSW. I have decided to also cover several groups of GP60's that are very much associated with the SP on this page. I am talking about the three EMD demonstrator GP60 units built to SP specifications including full front mounted gyralights numbered EMD 5-7. These units operated heavily on the SP form a long time, but were never purchased by the SP and eventually became CSXT units. Also covered here are the three Rio Grande GP60's numbered D&RGW 3154-3156. These units came to the Rio Grande as compensation for three wrecked GP40's if I recall correctly and were tacked onto an SP/SSW order, hence the similarity.

The 3 EMDX demonstrator units were never purchased by the SP, but were on long-term lease. They were eventually sold to the CSXT.
